Sheila Hurtig Robertson

Sheila Hurtig Robertson has worked as a writer and editor for over 35 years, and is the founding editor of Champion magazine, Coaches Report, and the Canadian Journal for Women in Coaching. She has attended three Olympic Games, twice as a media liaison officer for the Canadian Olympic Team and once as manager of the Team Canada media office.

She won the Canadian Sport Awards' Frank Ratcliffe Memorial Award Communications in 1995, and was a finalist for it once again in 2000. In 2005, Coaches of Canada established the Sheila Robertson Award, which annually recognizes a national organization that demonstrates a consistent approach to valuing the role of the coach in international sport.

On December 27, 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, a distant land unknown to most Canadians. Knowledge would come quickly over the coming months, particularly to the dozens of Canadian athletes who were entering the final stages of training for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow.
