Iguana Books is a Canadian hybrid publishing house in Toronto, Ontario, first founded by Greg Ioannou in 1991 as a pet project of a lifelong editor. Greg relaunched it in 2011 as a sustained publishing program. Iguana Books works in close partnership with Greg’s editing services company, Colborne Communications.
Iguana Books was first created to fill the gaps left by traditional publishing and to provide services to talented authors who were excluded from those channels. Iguana Books works to address structural barriers in the publishing industry and to publish high-quality books using modern, sustainable methods. Our growing list of genres include literary and historical fiction, mystery, sci-fi, thriller, comedy, theatre, finance, romance, poetry, memoir, biography, non-fiction, and children’s literature.
Can you imagine publishing your next book and having it ready for sale within four months? We can! We regularly complete all editorial, production, and prepublication work in even less time than that.
People
Greg Ioannou, President
Greg has been a freelance writer/editor since 1977. He started out writing entertainment articles for the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail, but soon evolved into (mostly) a generalist editor. He’s edited over 4,000 books, as well as magazines, uncountable government and corporate documents, board games and video games, websites, and even a love letter (she agreed to marry the guy!). He owns Colborne Communications (a writing and editing company) and Iguana Books (“Iguana” is a mispronunciation of “Ioannou”), and is a co-owner of an Australian video game company.
Cheryl Hawley, Publisher
With over 20 years of publishing and editorial experience, Cheryl has shepherded thousands of titles from manuscript to global distribution. Before joining Iguana, she worked as an editor and production manager at Dundurn Press, where she worked on several prize-winning and nominated titles. Cheryl also previously served as the lead editor for a national charity with over 1,000 employees, where she managed complex internal and external communications. This distinct blend of corporate and literary experience makes her uniquely suited to hybrid publishing.
